Why Indigo?

Indigo is the colour of intuition, balance, wisdom and knowledge. It symbolizes deep contemplation and meditation.The intention at Indigo Spirit Yoga is to provide a welcoming, community based environment where students of all abilities and ages can explore their full potential through the art of yoga.

Certified Yoga Instructor Laura Harvey has been providing a variety of services to the Northumberland County Communtity since 2003. These services include weekly community yoga classes in various locations, Workplace/Corporate Yoga with companies such as Cameco, design and operation of Yoga program at Trinity College School, dry-land training  for NORAC competitive swim team, and various Workshops including Prenatal Yoga.

Are there any guidelines to follow as a beginner to yoga or pilates?

Arrive a few minutes before class begins. Give yourself time for a few stretches, a moment of quietness, or time to relax from the day. If you arrive just as class is beginning, please enter quietly and find a place that does not disturb others.

Come with an empty stomach. Yoga is best practiced three hours after a meal. Do drink plenty of water after class.

Tell your teacher about any injuries or special health conditions before class. This will help the teacher make suggestions to make your practice safer and more enjoyable.

What should I bring to class?

Wear something light and comfortable such as sport tops, t-shirts, shorts and loose fitting pants. Yoga practice is done barefoot, please remove your shoes upon entering the studio.
Mats, blocks, straps and blankets are provided at the studio, however it is recommended that you eventually obtain your own personal mat.

Is there any yoga ettiquite?

Yoga embraces the qualities of compassion, awareness and respect. With this in mind please keep the following in mind:

Please turn mobile phones off while inside the yoga studio. If you are on call or in an emergency situation, please inform the teacher.
Remove your shoes at the door to keep the floors clean for others.
Refrain from wearing fragrances as some people are allergic to strong odors.
Self-awareness leads to attention to detail and to the respect for the space and people around you.
